  • How Hybrid System Works

    Starting off, electricity from the battery drives the motor instantly. During normal driving, the Prius monitors driving conditions and intelligently controls the engine and motor output for optimum fuel efficiency. Upon acceleration, the battery supplies electricity to drive the motor, enhancing driving power. While decelerating and braking, the motor is activated as a generator to convert the moving vehicle’s kinetic energy into electricity, and charge the battery (Regenerative braking). Upon stopping, the engine automatically cuts out, helping to reduce the unnecessary fuel consumption and CO2 emissions associated with idling.
